Therapeutic exercise prescribed by science.

At Cornerstone, our Strength, Mobility & Therapeutic Exercise program begins with a comprehensive clinical assessment measuring exactly where you are today across every dimension of physical function. From that data, our team designs a protocol as individualized as any medical prescription targeted, progressive, and integrated with every other dimension of your care. Your exercise design appointment is included in your annual Cornerstone membership. Ongoing instruction, coaching sessions, and periodic reassessments are available as cash-pay enhancements.

Physiology 101:

Muscle is the organ of longevity. We help you build and protect it.

The science is clear: muscle mass is one of the most powerful predictors of longevity, metabolic health, hormonal balance, cognitive function, and functional independence. And it is under relentless assault from aging, from hormonal decline, from sedentary behavior, from caloric restriction, and increasingly, from GLP-1 medications that, without proper exercise intervention, can accelerate muscle loss alongside fat loss.
‍
Most people know they should exercise more. What they don’t have is a clinical framework for exactly what to do, at what intensity, in what sequence and why. That’s what the Cornerstone team provides.

Our program begins with a comprehensive physical assessment — InBody bioimpedance body composition analysis, Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) analysis, grip strength dynamometry, VO2 max testing, balance plate assessment, and a thorough exercise history — giving our Exercise Physiologist the precise data needed to design a protocol that addresses your specific deficits, your clinical goals, and your stage of life.

The result is therapeutic exercise, not exercise for exercise’s sake, but movement as a targeted clinical intervention that builds muscle, protects bone, restores cardiovascular fitness, improves balance, and extends your healthspan in ways no medication alone can replicate.

The Assessment Battery

Your exercise prescription starts here: with your data

Before we prescribe a single movement, we measure. Our comprehensive physical assessment gives our team the clinical foundation to design a program that is precisely matched to your body, your physiology, and your goals.

InBody Bioimpedance - Body composition analysis

Precise, segmental measurement of muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat, and fluid distribution. Muscle mass by segment (arms, legs, trunk) tells us exactly where you are strong, where you are deficient, and how your composition is changing over time. This is the foundation of your exercise prescription and the benchmark against which your progress is tracked.

Grip strength dynamometry

Grip strength is one of the most clinically validated predictors of overall muscle strength, functional capacity, and longevity outcomes. Our dynamometer assessment provides an objective measurement of muscular strength that guides the intensity and progression of your resistance training program and is reassessed at every periodic check-in.

VO2 max testing

Your maximum oxygen uptake is a powerful predictor of cardiovascular longevity. We measure it directly and use the results to design your cardiovascular conditioning protocol at precisely the right intensity to drive improvement without overreaching.

Balance plate testing

Postural stability, neuromuscular coordination, and fall risk are among the most clinically significant and most under-addressed dimensions of physical longevity. Our balance plate assessment provides objective data across multiple conditions, informing targeted balance and stability training that protects your functional independence.

Anti-inflammatory & autoimmune nutrition

Chronic inflammation and immune dysregulation are profoundly responsive to targeted nutritional intervention. We build anti-inflammatory nutrition protocols grounded in your specific inflammatory marker data, reducing systemic burden and supporting immune regulation at the dietary level.

Comprehensive exercise history

Understanding where you’ve been is as important as knowing where you are. Your comprehensive exercise history — including past injuries, movement limitations, training experience, activity preferences, and exercise barriers — ensures that your program is not just clinically appropriate but actually sustainable in your life.

WHOOP - Sleep, recovery, strain & strength training monitoring

WHOOP wearable technology is integrated into your assessment from day one- providing continuous, real-world data on your sleep quality, recovery status, heart rate variability, and daily strain. This data captures how your body is responding to training between clinical visits, informing the intensity and volume of your strength programming and ensuring that your exercise prescription is matched to your body’s true recovery capacity at every stage of your program

Your personalized exercise prescription

After we've created a working baseline from the in-depth assessment out of the data from above, then we can begin to build out your personal exercise prescription—tailored specifically to you and your health goals. Every exercise protocol is built from your assessment data, informed by your clinical picture, and integrated with your provider's care plan, your nutrition protocol, and your WHOOP wearable data.
Resistance & strength training

The clinical cornerstone of longevity exercise. Progressive resistance training builds and preserves muscle mass, strengthens bone, improves insulin sensitivity, supports hormonal health, and protects against sarcopenia and osteopenia. Every resistance protocol is designed around your InBody composition data and grip strength baseline targeting your specific muscular deficits with appropriate load, volume, and progression.

Cardiovascular conditioning

Designed from your VO2 max results, your cardiovascular protocol targets the precise training zones that drive meaningful improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness one of the most impactful levers for longevity available. Whether your baseline is low or you are already active, your program meets you exactly where you are and moves you forward.

Mobility & flexibility protocols

Mobility is the foundation of functional movement — and one of the first casualties of aging and sedentary behavior. Your mobility protocol addresses the specific restrictions identified in your assessment, restoring range of motion, reducing injury risk, and ensuring that your strength training translates into real-world functional capacity.

Balance & stability training

Built from your balance plate assessment data, your stability protocol targets the specific neuromuscular and postural deficits that increase fall risk and compromise functional independence. Balance training is among the most evidence-supported interventions for preserving independence and quality of life across the decades.

Functional movement patterns

Real-world strength requires more than isolated muscle work. Your functional movement protocol trains the multi-joint, multi-planar movement patterns (pushing, pulling, hinging, squatting, carrying) that translate directly to the activities of daily life and the physical demands of the life you want to live.

WHOOP data integration

Your WHOOP wearable provides continuous, real-world data onyour recovery status, sleep quality, heart rate variability, and daily strain delivered between clinical visits and interpreted by your care team. This data directly informs the intensity and volume of your exercise programming, ensuring that your training load is matched to your body’s actual recovery capacity. On high-strain or low-recovery days, your program adapts.

Taking a GLP-1 medication? Your muscle needs a protection plan.

GLP-1 receptor agonists, including Tirzepatide, are among the most effective tools available for weight and metabolic optimization. But they come with a clinically significant riskthat most prescribers fail to address: muscle loss alongside fat loss. Without a properly designed resistance training protocol, patients on GLP-1 medications can lose substantial lean muscle mass — undermining metabolic health, accelerating functional decline, and compromising the long-term results of the medication itself.

At Cornerstone Health Community, every patient on GLP-1 therapy receives a dedicated muscle protection protocol— combining targeted resistance training, precise protein goals for muscle synthesis, creatine supplementation where indicated, and hydration with electrolyte support — to ensure that weight lost is fat, not muscle.

Your GLP-1 muscle protection protocol includes:

Resistance training prescription: designed to preserve and build lean muscle during active weight loss

Individualized protein targets: for muscle protein synthesis — calculated from your InBody lean mass data

Creatine supplementation protocol: where clinically indicated supported by growing evidence for muscle preservation, bone health, and cognitive function

Hydration and electrolyte recommendations: to support performance and recovery during caloric restriction

InBody reassessment at regular intervals: to: track body composition changes and adjust your protocol in real time

How is therapeutic exercise at Cornerstone different from working with a personal trainer?

A: Personal trainers design programs around fitness goals. Our team designs programs around your clinical data: InBody body composition, Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), VO2 max, grip strength, balance plate assessment, and your provider's clinical findings. Your exercise prescription is integrated withyour medical care plan, your nutrition protocol, and your WHOOP recovery data. This is therapeutic exercise — practiced as a clinical discipline, not a fitness service.

Q: Is nutrition therapy included in my membership?

A: Yes, nutrition & lifestyle therapy is a component in all Cornerstone membership plans. The scope varies by plan: some memberships include unlimited individual sessions and the full suite of nutrition services, while other plans include a set number of one-on-one visits with additional sessions available as needed. All plans include group nutrition classes and Next Level Health classes. Advanced microbiome testing, genetic testing, and nutraceutical supplements are available as cash-pay add-ons across all plans. Your care team will walk you through exactly what is included in your specific membership before you begin.

Q: Is the exercise assessment and design appointment included in my membership?

A: Yes — your comprehensive physical assessment and exercise design appointment are included in your annual Cornerstone Health Community membership. Ongoing instruction sessions, periodic reassessments, andprogramming updates are available as cash-pay enhancements.

Q: I’m on a GLP-1 medication. Do I really need a formal exercise protocol?

A: Yes — and this is one of the most important clinical decisions you can make while on a GLP-1. Without a properly designed resistance training protocol, patients on GLP-1 medications can lose significant lean muscle mass alongside fat. Our GLP-1 Muscle Protection Protocol combines targeted resistance training, individualized protein targets, creatine supplementation where indicated, and hydration and electrolyte guidance to ensure your weight loss is fat — not muscle.

Q: I'm not very fit. Is this program appropriate for me?

A: Absolutely — and you may be exactly the patient who benefits most. Our program is designed for all ages and fitness levels, including patients who are deconditioned or have been sedentary for years. Your assessment establishes your baseline, and your program is designed to meet you exactly where you are — progressing safely and deliberately from that starting point.

Q: How does WHOOP data integrate into my exercise programming?

A: Your WHOOP wearable continuously tracks your recovery status, sleep quality, heart rate variability, and daily strain between clinical visits. This data is reviewed by your care team and used to adjust the intensity and volume of your exercise programming in real time — ensuring that your training load matches your body’s actual recovery capacity on any given day.

Q: Can therapeutic exercise help with bone density?

A: Yes — progressive resistance training is one of the most evidence-supported interventions for maintaining and improving bone density. Your exercise prescription specifically targets the loading patterns and muscle groups that provide the greatest osteogenic stimulus — particularly important for patients with osteopenia or those at risk due to hormonal changes.

Q: How often will my program be updated?

A: Your initial program is designed to be progressive —building in intensity and complexity as your fitness improves. Periodic reassessment appointments allow our team to measure your objective progress across every assessment metric and update your prescription accordingly. The frequency of reassessment depends on your goals and your program — your care team will make recommendations based on your specific clinical picture.

Your answers are closer than you think.

If you’ve been dismissed, misdiagnosed, or simply told to manage your symptoms — it’s time for a different approach. Cornerstone’s expert care team is ready to partner with you.
